Seven somethings

Seven somethings : 7 #hashtag #howlers-&-#hashtagisms

Hashjacking
If you’re thinking of creating your very own hashtag, see if it already exists, then define it.
Failure to do your homework can confuse or compromise the popularity of an existing hashtag.
Visit twubs.com where you can search & register a hashtag or find what’s hot at hashtagify.me.

Hijacking-&-Piggybacking
A big fat hairy no-no is muscling in on a hashtag & effectively highjacking it.
It’s bad manners, rude & disrespectful. It won’t get you any prizes & could get you banned.
If you want to join in, stay within the topic of conversation, engage & add a little social sparkle.

Keep the cryptic clues to the crossword
Random hashtagging serves little purpose, if you want posts to be meaningful & shareable.
Relevance is key. To you, your brand, your message, your event, your product or your service.
Express a point of view. Convey an emotion or signpost a golden nugget or tasty topic.

#Don’t #Tag #Every #Single #Word #In #Your #Posts
Tagging #every #single #word is like repeatedly being poked in the ribs with a pointy finger. Ouch!
It’s the social media equivalent of being the most annoying person in the class.
And you’re likely to end up being Billy-No-Mates with no one to play with in the social playground.

Overstuffing
There are many social addictions. One of them is #Hashtagaholism.
#Hashtagaholics have a serious condition where they use far too many hashtags in a post.
1 is perfect. 2 if they’re pertinant. 3 is slightly over egging the pudding. Any more. See a doctor.

#QuackQuackOoopsForMultiWordHashtagging
Make hashtags punchy & short. Easy to rewrite-repost-&-retweet.
Sometimes stringing words together in a single hashtag is the way to go.
Important people. #NelsonMandela. Big events. #RoyalBaby.

Seven somethings : 7 subtle differences between networking-&-connecting

Nets vs Bridges : The clue’s in the name.
Networking’s a numbers game. Cast a net & you’re sure to scoop up a lot of fish.
Connecting on the other hand just takes two. To build one bridge.
That you can both use. Time-&-time again. And again.

Badges vs Monikers : Memorable or unforgettable?
Magnetic. Pin or sticky. They’re rife at networking events but de-personalise us.
Names on the other hand are personal. Part of our identity. Integral to our brand.
Never forget a face. Always remember a name. And make your moniker memorable.

Pitches vs Stories : Stop selling & start telling.
How many networking events kick off with a room of cheesy-sleazey pitches?
Want to make meaningful connections? Turn your pitch into a sizzling story.
Storytelling’s an art that starts conversations, attracts attention & fosters a connection.

Journeys vs Adventures : Choose your companions wisely.
Networking can be a solitary journey that takes you from one event to another.
Connecting’s an adventure – shared with like-minded travelling companions.
Who come along for the ride & might take you on a delicious detour along the way.

Contacts vs Connections : Gardens & orchards.
Network to sow a garden of contacts. That bloom perennially, annually or seasonally.
Connect to plant an orchard of connections. Trees with a deep root system.
That bear fruit-&-blossom, year after year. That’s the difference between the two.

Cocktail party vs dinner party : RSVP!
Networking’s a cocktail party where you flit from one-person-to-another.
Connecting’s rather more intimate. A three course approach to business.
Guess what? You’re cordially invited to both! But be selective.

2D vs 3D : Different dimensions.
Photos capture a moment. They’re two dimensional snap shots.
Sculptures are three dimensional. With depth-&-perspective.
Both play different roles. [...]
